Alphonse Mucha.....
We were talking about Mucha the other day because someone had seen the exhibition at The Sainsbury Centre. I have confirmation now that the exhibition continues till 20th March.
He was a Czech artist, Art Nouveau, Vienna Secesion in style, and believed that beautiful art should improve the quality of peoples lives. He believed his art should be inexpensive and accessible to the general public.

here is the photo of New Year Eve 'celebrations' in Manchester some of you mentioned......
this photo was mentioned in the media as being like a Renaisance painting in format. The second version has a computer program 'paint' applied to it. The third one has the 'golden section' ( the traditional and classical systemn to organise a painting in order to make it easy to look at) applied over it, amplifying the focal point. You can see that the action in the foreground and mid distance, epitomised by jagged and uneven shapes, contrasts with the buildings and vertical lines in the background which give a feeling of 'security' and the 'establishment'.

this week you will need black paper, and white paper, prit stick, scissors, (long scissors make cutting straight lines easier than small ones) or knife and cutting board.......
yet another example of foreshortening
so to prove the point, just measure the length of, for instance, the bown of the spoon compared with the length of the handle, and then perhaps the width of the middle spoon handle compared with the width of the bowl. Now you know that its not magic to sort out, it just involves a bit of measuring......
