Work for this term.....

So I think the Christmas Challenge could and should be an ongoing source of ideas and imagery so that is a strong idea for this term. (Don't Look Up)

Another idea is this, find some dead stalks, ( you can see I used some dead braken, just because the colour caught my eye) stems, prunings (I have some wonderful thick vine prunings) and bind together so that the junction of tie and stems becomes your focal point for drawing or painting.

But, as ever, make positive decisions for instance the colour of the binding, which could be string, plastic, fabric, ribbon, a casual knot, single or multiple, or a formal bow. Background (just as important as the object itself) dark, light, patterned or plain. And consider the edge of the image which defines how much background to include, which then controls the impact of the whole composition.

What you will be doing here is fabricating subject matter which will appeal to you personally (it doesn't matter about anyone else) and give you scope for at least three drawings or paintings. Try to exploit the difference between the true nature of the binding and the stems, remember that contrast is a useful focus for you. There are obviously many options, I just include one here.....

Please organise your own subject matter for the group meetings......
