Monday Ten Minute Challenge.....(it might be ten minutes every day!)

Dig up a chunk of snowdrops and bring them indoors in a pot or tray. Draw them every day for a week. They will flower and change quite quickly as it will be warm indoors. Draw or paint, or both. Work on one drawing and add to it each day, or make seperate images. You could try layering one drawing over another. Don't give up when the flowers and leaves start to die off, it is natural that they will die and decay and therefore appropriate that you record what happens......

You might find that you are recording not just the existance of the flower but also the passage of time.

Try to be inventive in the way that you record what happens to the flowers and leaves. There is no right or wrong.......

You can try a similar process with other growing things, like a tulip bud opening, or a broad bean held in a jam jar by a bit of card, with water so you can see the root as well as the shoot grow.......

have fun, I look forward to the results......

Monday challenge, what can you do with these subtle winter colours?

Here are some photos. I suggest you try a colour study. I think the colours are interesting but it would be very easy to make a boring painting from one of these photos.

So the answer is to try to capture as many of the subtle colours as you can. Perhaps a quick pencil sketch then some hasty colour application? You could try watercolour (my choice), acrylic, oil, or even pastel (not my choice!) or perhaps a quick watercolour, then pencil on top, while wet or dry, then more paint........

or watercolour and then pastel on top........

You could even try using card to apply the paint with........

just ten minutes, no time to fiddle about too much.........
