next week

next week Mon am, Tues am, Wed am people will all need a 'large turf' to work from ...... Google Durer's 'Large piece of turf' to see what to prepare!

and stones and birds...

an image of the same stone pics as last week but displayed differently, without the black outlines and I have put this photo  up just so you can see the difference in overall effect, so have a look at this and then the photo from last week.

Then some images of more stones but with the addition of birds, encourageing here the concept that you can work from real life when you can and supplement what else you might need from books and photos.

Portraits...

some quick thinking exercises on Monday, my aim always being to encourage you to think about your work in a slightly different way, and tuck some new techniques and expectations under your belt for next time, so here are just a few of the results...

quite diverse as you can see....

Saturday 18 April 2015

and Yes there is a very busy class at HEMPTON,

and here is some of their work, beautifully made drawings, and as you can see they have feet too!

and in case you have forgotten, those of you who were drawing these fascinating flints last week will need a /or some bird pics for this week, though not if you are a tuesday afternoon person.

Portrait work....

interesting images from this afternoon, some were joint efforts and some were only by one hand, does that make sense? well it will if you were there!

Next week you will need about a dozen sheets of A3 or bigger paper. Cheap white paper is fine for the exercises we will be doing. You will also need pencil, charcoal, felt tip pen, rubber, (putty or otherwise,) cotton wool or kitchen paper, oh yes and an open mind!

This Term, starting with landscape.....

stunning stones in Cawston, just the start of this summer's work on landscape...

just a Turner

Here is a version of Rain, Steam and Speed  not quite by Turner. It is life size, so about one metre square. A picture that size has quite an impact!

See you soon.....

here is a photo taken at a village called Fatega on Gran Canaria. It was one of the strongholds of the aboriginal people who lived there and who defied the onslaught of the Spanish Conquest in the 16th Centuary, although of course they could not hold out forever. The Spanish took thirty years to destroy the people and habitat of the island. They brought in desease and animals (like cats) which continued the ruination of this amazing place.

We found

a ravine filled with palm trees and flora which gives an idea of what the habitat would have been like.....
