More drawing, from Marsham this time

showing three dimensions on flat paper!

so what is Reality?

We went, at last, to the Reality exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre. Try to visit, the exhibition closes on the 1st March. There are much to see, and much to challenge what we think of as 'reality'.

JOIN US FOR WILD PAINTING!

Marsham Village Hall is the venue, and on Friday 13th I am holding a WATERCOLOUR DAY. The idea is to loosen up and release all your inhibitions so we will be dripping and blowing and tipping and splashing paint, mixing media to experiment and get the best out of this versatile medium. I will have some big paper for sale by the sheet, if you want it. A3 and bigger (water colour paper never seems to come in the same standard sizes as ordinary paper)
Free tea and coffee, bring your own lunch, easy parking. £30 for the day.
You will need any water colours and associated equipment you happen to have, pens, pencils, oil pastels, newspaper, thin card, water soluble crayons, masking tape, rough paper, sandpaper, overalls.......and anything else you think might be useful.
If I think of anything else I will tell you....
Please let me know if you want to come.....

PORTRAITS

and here are a few samples of work done on Monday afternoons at Cawston.
Don't forget that we always need models, they are paid £20 for the afternoon, so if you know anyone who would be happy to sit for us then please let me know.....

January 2015

so here is just a tiny sample of this terms first tranche of work, the remit being just to draw an ordinary object, but to concentrate on making the most of the inside/outside of it. So emphasis on the tonal values to get the most dramatic effect you can. Starting with pencil work we moved on to use charcoal and chalk, and mid tone paper to make the most tonal values therefore creating the illusion of three dimensions on a flat piece of paper!  oh and a happy pic of hard working individuals at Cawston!!!

Exciting Water Colours!

Details to follow.....

NEW TERM

Term starts next Monday, we will be drawing, as ever, because straightforward objective drawing is the basis of our understanding of how to assess and process what we see of the world around us.
So please bring A3 ( or bigger ) paper, and a 2b pencil, and maybe a board to rest on. If you are coming to the Portrait class a board, and maybe an easel is a really good idea, and makes life easier, because you can look across at your subject and lay the image on paper at the same angle at which you are actually looking. If you work flat on the table you often get distortion because of transposing your image from the vertical to the horizontal.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, I certainly did, though it is always a time that I don't really look forward to. This year we spent time with our family and it was great. Then New Year celebrations kicked in and we had fun then, so now getting back to normal.
