Homework!

Just in case there are any of you who cannot come to a group session but want a few ideas to work on at home I will post some thoughts here.

Obviously these will be just pointers, ideas for you to interpret as you choose.

I know the hard thing is just to get started!

If you could send any work in to me to post here I know that I, and everyone else would be really interested to see it.

So we have a loose theme this term. It is 'stuff in a jar'.

We all have gardens and an interest in the things that grow in them.

So my idea is to start by concentrating on 4 elements to construct a composition.

1. an edge or frame to place the image in.

2. a groundline.

3. a vase, jug or container.

4. flowers, stems, seedheads.

Consider how you place everything, think about positve shapes, and negative shapes.

You can redraw the edge or frame when you have finished the drawing if you feel it will make a stronger composition.

Try doing a scribble drawing using a pen and without taking your pen off the paper. Explore different ways of drawing, and different sizes, and proportions.

Have fun with this. Drawings can be quick, or take a long time.
