My original idea for subject matter in September was to just put together something hard edged like a vase, with something organic like flowers, then a groundline to give a feeling of gravity and stability, and an edge or frame to finish or make the most of the composition, paying attention to positive shapes and negative shapes. This is basic picture making.
This format can be applied to almost any subject matter and is just a versatile formula which can help you to construct a useful and fulfilling composition, even selectively using sections from photographs.
